Role Overview
This role provides light-to-moderate general labour support on active construction projects. Work is performed on site alongside skilled tradespeople and site supervisors. Assignments are project based, with schedules varying according to project intake and operational demand. Duties encompass material handling (up to 40 lbs), site assistance, cleanup, and light demolition, with a strong emphasis on physical endurance and safety compliance.

Duties
Materials Handling & Transport
• Load and unload lightweight construction materials (small lumber pieces, drywall sheets, hardware boxes, tools, etc.) from delivery vehicles – all items under 40 lbs per lift.
• Safely transport materials across job sites using hand trucks, carts, or by manual carrying.
• Organize and stage materials at designated work areas for efficient access by trades.

Site Support & Assistance
• Assist carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other skilled trades with tools, equipment, and day to day tasks as directed.
• Hold, position, or secure lightweight materials during installation or assembly processes.
• Fetch and return tools and supplies, ensuring they are cleaned and stored properly after use.

Site Preparation, Cleanup & Light Demolition
• Perform initial site setup: erect barricades and temporary fencing; lay out drop cloths and protection.
• Conduct light demolition work: remove drywall, flooring, cabinetry, and other non-structural fixtures under supervision.
• Carry out daily cleanup: sweep floors, collect debris, empty waste bins, and maintain clear access routes.
• Dispose of construction waste in designated containers or dumpsters, following recycling and disposal protocols.

Safety & Site Maintenance
• Work at heights when required, using ladders or aerial lifts; strictly follow fall protection procedures and WorkSafeBC standards.
• Keep the job site organized and hazard free throughout the workday; promptly address spills, clutter, or tripping hazards.
• Report equipment issues or unsafe site conditions to supervisors immediately.

Job Title: Skilled Labour (Power Tools Experience Required)
Wage Rate: $22.00 – $24.00/hr

Role Overview

This role provides skilled labour support on active construction, with a primary focus on handheld power tool operation, material handling, and site assistance. Work is performed on-site alongside the Foreman and trades crews. Assignments are project-based, with schedules varying according to project intake and operational demand. Duties include operating power tools (drills, grinders, jackhammers, etc.), assisting with concrete and demolition tasks, material transport, and general site support, all carried out with strict adherence to safety protocols.

Duties

Power Tool Operation

• Operate a range of handheld power tools independently and safely, including drills, grinders, jackhammers, and concrete vibrators.

• Select the appropriate tool for each task; perform routine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, bit/disc changes) as needed.

• Set up and adjust tools for specific applications (e.g., drilling anchors, grinding surfaces, breaking concrete).

Material Handling & Site Support

• Safely handle, move, and transport heavy materials (concrete bags, rebar, lumber, hardware, etc.) across the job site using carts, wheelbarrows, or manual lifting.

• Support the Foreman and trades with general labour tasks as directed, including staging materials, setting up equipment, and assisting with layout.

• Keep the site organized and hazard-free throughout the day, clear debris, sweep floors, and maintain clear access paths.

Examples of Skilled Labour Work

• Concrete work – mixing, pouring, leveling, and finishing concrete for slabs, footings, or sidewalks; setting forms and rebar.

• Scaffolding & staging – erecting, dismantling, and adjusting scaffold systems, guardrails, and access platforms (assembly only; no powered lifts).

• Pipe & conduit installation – cutting, threading, and fitting PVC, copper, or EMT conduit under supervision (rough-in, not finishing).

• Roofing support – laying underlayment, carrying shingles or metal panels, and applying flashing under direction.

• Tile setting assistance – cutting and laying ceramic, porcelain, or stone tiles for floors or walls (basic layouts, under supervision).

• Painting & finishing – rolling, brushing, or spraying primer/paint; applying stains or sealers (surface prep and application).

Core Duties (General)
• Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine material requirements, dimensions, and installation sequences.
• Support site supervisors with structural layout, planning, and installation across multiple construction phases.
• Install, replace, and repair doors, windows, drywall, cabinetry, stair systems, and related fixtures to specified finish standards.
• Inspect woodwork and materials on-site; document and rectify deficiencies to align with project specifications.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction machinery in accordance with safety protocols.
• Apply BC Building Codes and WorkSafeBC regulations to all tasks; adhere to site-specific health and safety directives.

Minimum Qualifications
• 5+ years of total construction industry experience.
• 1+ years of verifiable direct carpentry experience.
• Working knowledge of BC Building Codes as applied to both residential and commercial projects.
• Proficiency in the safe operation of standard hand tools, power tools, and job site machinery.
• Verbal communication capability sufficient for coordinating with trades, vendors, and crew members on active job sites.
